Industrial Water Solutions: ZLD, Reuse and Resource Recovery
SOLUTIONS

What you are trying to achieve, and what it takes to get there

These industrial water solutions are organised by outcome rather than by equipment. Each one explains what has to be true for it to work, what it costs to run, and where it is the wrong answer.

01The idea

Industrial water solutions, organised by outcome

A solution is what you are trying to achieve. A technology is one of the nine packages used to achieve it. These pages describe the first; the technology pages describe the second.

The distinction matters because the same package appears in several solutions, sized differently each time.

Each page also says where the solution is the wrong answer. Zero liquid discharge is not always right, and a page that will not tell you when to avoid something is not worth reading.

02The question

Four conditions decide whether you need zero liquid discharge

ZLD is not a better version of water treatment. It is the answer to a specific situation.

Plenty of sites are sold zero liquid discharge when minimal liquid discharge would have served them for less. The difference is not technical sophistication, it is whether the four conditions below apply.

Disposal is expensiveOr getting more so. Trucked brine is an operating cost with no end date.
Permits are tightWhere a discharge consent is unavailable, reuse stops being optional.
The salt has a marketA separated salt with a buyer changes the economics; a mixed salt does not.

Where none of those apply, minimal liquid discharge is usually the better answer and we will say so. Land availability is the fourth condition, and on a constrained site it often decides the question on its own.

03The solutions

Seven solutions

Each page explains what has to be true for the solution to work, and where it does not.

End-to-End SolutionsOne contract, from process to twenty years of operation

Process development, engineering, equipment, construction and operation under a single accountable party. The argument for it is that every stage in a treatment train is coupled to the one before it.

Zero Liquid DischargeNo liquid leaves the site, and the salt has a specification

Water recovered and reused, dissolved salts crystallized into single-species industrial products. 45 integrated systems delivered, 1.89 million tonnes a year of by-product capacity.

Our core capabilityRead the solution page
Leachate Zero Liquid DischargeAround 90% recovered, the last 10% crystallized

The full mass balance for a landfill or waste-to-energy leachate plant, with both concentrate streams reduced separately and the residue turned into sodium and potassium chloride.

Mobile Water TreatmentContainerized units, built in 90 days, shipped worldwide

A complete treatment train inside an ISO container, for the problem that does not justify a permanent plant. Rent, lease or buy, from weeks to seven years.

Fast deploymentRead the solution page
Resource RecoveryTurning the residue into a product with a buyer

Five industrial salts to Chinese national standards, plus organic concentrate recovery. This is what separates a plant that pays to bury its salt from one that sells it.

High-Salinity WastewaterBrine that conventional membrane trains are not built for

Feed up to 180 g/L TDS, concentrated past conventional limits before any thermal step, then purified and separated.

Water ReuseClosing the loop without creating a salt problem

Reclaimed water for industrial parks and plant water systems. Reuse solves the water problem and creates the salt problem, which is why the two are designed together.

The full record, filterable by sector and contract model, is on the projects page.

04Questions

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between your solutions and your technologies?

A solution is what a client is trying to achieve: zero liquid discharge, water reuse, a leachate plant that holds its output. A technology is one of the nine process packages used to get there. Solutions describe outcomes; technologies describe mechanisms.

Where should I start?

With the outcome you need. If you are not sure whether that is zero liquid discharge or something less, send a water analysis and tell us what the discharge limit is. The answer usually falls out of those two things.

Is zero liquid discharge always the right answer?

No. Minimal liquid discharge stops at a small residual brine and costs less to build. ZLD is right where disposal is expensive, land is scarce, permits are tight, or the recovered salt has a market. Those four conditions decide it, not a preference.

Do I have to take the whole scope?

No. Engagements run from a single process package through equipment supply, EPC, EPC plus operation, and investment models such as BOO. We prefer full scope because that is where a performance guarantee means something.

How long does a project take?

A containerized mobile unit is built in 90 days. A full ZLD plant is typically two to three years from contract to startup, and the schedule is usually set by site conditions rather than by the water technology.

Can you retrofit a plant that already exists?

Often yes. Most underperforming plants already have the biological and membrane stages. What they lack is concentrate reduction and crystallization, and those are the parts that get added.

Tell us the outcome, not the equipment

Start here

Send a water analysis and tell us what the plant has to achieve. If zero liquid discharge is not the right answer for your site, we will tell you that too.

Useful to include

  • Flow rate and TDS
  • Ion balance, COD and hardness
  • Discharge limit or reuse target
  • Current disposal route and its cost
  • Land available on site
